Have you ever stopped to reflect on the possibility of reincarnation? Have you ever met someone who remembered a past life?
Today, we’re going to share one of the most intriguing stories about reincarnation, involving Ancient Egypt. Get ready, because the mystery is just beginning!
The story of Dorothy Eady, known as Om Seti, is one of the most curious and emotional related to the idea of past lives. Dorothy claimed to have lived during the Pharaonic Era and to have been a priestess and servant in the court of Pharaoh Seti I, the son of Ramses I and Sitra. Her fascinating journey began in 1904 when she was born in England.
When she was only three years old, Dorothy suffered a serious accident when she fell down a staircase at her house, resulting in a head injury. The doctors believed she had died, but, surprisingly, a few hours later, she came back to life without any lasting effects. This episode deeply marked her childhood, and it was after this event that strange reports about her experiences and memories began to surface.
Soon after the accident, Dorothy started having vivid dreams of a large building with imposing columns and would wake up distressed, asking to "go back home." A year later, in 1908, her parents took her to the British Museum, and her reaction upon entering the Egyptian exhibit surprised everyone. She broke free from her mother and ran toward the Egyptian statues, kneeling in front of them and kissing their feet. When her parents tried to pull her away, she insisted, saying she was "home, with her people."
Over time, Dorothy became a regular visitor to the museum and began studying Egyptian culture in depth. She was tutored by the renowned professor Ernest Wallis Budge, who taught her how to read hieroglyphs.
The young girl then delved even further into her studies of Ancient Egypt and started participating in reincarnation groups, although none of them fully satisfied her.
In the 1930s, Dorothy married Abdel Maguib and moved to Egypt, where she had her only son, named Seti. From then on, she became known as "Om Seti," a nickname meaning "mother of Seti" – a common practice in ancient Egypt, where women were often called by the name of their children.
It was during this time that Dorothy revealed in detail what she believed to be her past life: she claimed to be Bentreshyt, the daughter of a poor couple who was sent to the temple of Seti I, where she became a servant and priestess. She also reported having had a romance with Pharaoh Seti I and becoming pregnant by him accidentally, breaking the rule that prohibited priestesses from losing their virginity. To preserve Seti’s honor, she reportedly committed suicide, after which the pharaoh promised to never forget her.
Dorothy lived in Abydos for much of her life, where she worked for almost 20 years as an assistant to archaeologists Selim Hasan and Ahmed Fakhry. She became the first woman to work in the Egyptian Antiquities Department, now the Ministry of Antiquities of Egypt. Her archaeological work and contributions to the understanding of Ancient Egypt were highly respected.
So, what do you think of this incredible story? Did you know the case of Dorothy Eady, Om Seti? Do you believe in reincarnation, or do you feel there's something mysterious about past lives? And who knows, maybe one day you’ll visit Egypt and explore the relics of the past that fascinated Dorothy throughout her life.
