Samael Aun Weor, one of the most important modern esoteric masters, challenges us to question one of humanity’s greatest illusions: are we conscious, or are we simply hypnotized?

Are we living in an awakened state, or, as he asserts, are we "asleep" while we identify with a myriad of external and internal factors that shape our perception of reality?

One of Samael Aun Weor’s most striking observations is about how we identify not only with the external world but also with our own thoughts and emotions. This process of identification is, in the master's view, one of the greatest traps keeping us trapped in a life of superficiality and frustration. We are hypnotized by vanity, pride, greed, lustful thoughts, anger, and intense emotions that lead us to repetitive and destructive patterns. We identify with the "self," that false self that prevents us from seeing our true essence. When we see ourselves triumphing over the day, the question is not whether the day has been victorious, but whether, at the end, we have truly triumphed over ourselves.

The central question Samael poses in his writings is direct and challenging: "What did you do today?" It’s not just about physical actions or completing daily tasks, but about the awareness that every day presents an opportunity to eliminate certain psychological defects that prevent us from reaching a higher level of being.

Did we, during the day, allow ourselves to be carried away by destructive thoughts and emotions? Did we identify, even for an instant, with a trivial concern, a selfish desire, or with pride and vanity? This is the reality for most people: we live in a state of sleep, where choices are influenced by unconscious internal forces. As a result, the "day" triumphs over us, not the other way around.

A crucial aspect of Samael Aun Weor’s teachings is the idea that there are different Levels of Being. Each of us is at a particular level, but what is more important is that everyone has the possibility to transcend that level and evolve spiritually. The question is: are we truly committed to our inner transformation, or are we satisfied with our current state of life?

Each level of being is associated with specific "bitterness" or struggles. Transformation requires effort, vigilance, and constant self-criticism. It is not enough to live a life of comfort or mere complaint; we must fight, day by day, to overcome internal obstacles and reach a state of greater awareness and self-mastery.

The great lesson Samael Aun Weor leaves us with is that spiritual evolution does not happen by chance, nor is it a passive process. To ascend to a Higher Level of Being, it is necessary for us to constantly strive to overcome our psychological limitations and to keep our consciousness alert and awake. Only then can we truly conquer victory over the "day," over events, and over ourselves.

Is it possible to reach a higher level of being without eliminating psychological defects? The answer, according to Samael, is clear: no. Spiritual awakening requires transformation, and for that, we must face our inner shadows. Therefore, if you ask yourself whether you are asleep or awakening, ask yourself also: What did you do today to evolve?

Be the guardian of your own consciousness, and do not allow the day, vanity, or egotistical thoughts to dominate you. True victory is the one achieved internally, through the silent but profound transformation of being.
